Belize Scholarship Recipients
Ismael Longsworth is a twelve year old and graduated this past June from Crooked Tree Government School in the Belize district. Ismael will be attending Ladyville Technical High School starting this summer. He is excited in engaging in many extracurricular activities including soccer and basketball which he love. Ismael's immediate plans are to work hard to get good grades and in his own words, "I know what I need to do to make my family proud, UBNI proud, and myself proud!"
Jair Mora is from the Corozal district and lives in the village of Sarteneja. He recently graduated from Sarteneja's Nazarene Primary School. He come from a family of six and lives with his parents. He participated in may activities including the Spelling Bee contest and soccer. He believe that education is a must in life. Jair will be attending Sarteneja Baptist High School, which makes one of his immediate goals come true.
Estrellita Tuyub will be attending Orange Walk Technical High School in the Orange Walk district. Her favorite hobbies include playing soccer and singing. Estrellita lives in the village of San Antonio Rio Hondo. She hopes to become a primary school teacher.
Analee Requena lives with her grandparents int he village of Jacinto in the Toledo District. She graduated this past June from Little Flower R.C. School where she obtained the highest Primary School Examination (PSE) score. She loves reading, writing, debating and participating in competitions. Analee will be attending Toledo Community College. Analee's high school goal is to graduate among the top three. Analee aspires to become a lawyer.
Arcela Tush is from the village of Maya Mopan in the Stann Creek District. She attended the Maya Mopan Government School. She will be attending Independence High School in her home district. Her hobbies include soccer and reading. Arcela is looking forward to back to society once she achieves her career goal of becoming a nurse.
Lishawn Lian Coc is from the village of Aenal in the Cayo District where she attended La Immaculada R.C. School. She will be attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Benque Viejo Del Carmen. She is excited about this opportunity given to her by UBNI.
United States Scholarship Recipients
Kadir Castellanos will be attending Dominican University in the fall where he plans to major in Political Science and Business. Kadir believes that in hard work and determination anything is possible. His career goal is to become a lawyer.
Sugeli Mai will be attending College of Lake County. She will be majoring in Paralegal Studies. Sugeli's career goal is to have masters in Law and becoming a Criminal Lawyer. Sugeli believes that everyone deserves to feel safe in their community and the way to do this by making sure that people who commit crimes pay for those crimes.
Kelsie Lamb is currently studying Elementary Education and History at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is very grateful to her family who has instilled in her the values of determination, service, and education. Kelsie is proud of her heritage and looks forward to incorporating Belize's multiculturalism and diversity into her future classrooms.
Areli Calderon will be attending University of Illinois at Springfield, and will be majoring in psychology (clinical/counseling) with a minor in communications. She believes that, as the resident assistant for first-generation students, she will be able to raise cultural awareness and diversity. Her goal is to develop a healing process through counseling in the future.
Destinee Gutierrez will be attending Carthage College majoring in Political Science. Destinee's career gold is to become an Immigration Attorney because she sees the need for immigration assistance and guidance not only for Belizeans, but for all nationalities in our community and neighboring cities. Destinee believes that assisting others especially the less fortunate is not only rewarding but also a blessing.
Karissa Magana currently attends College of Lake County where she is majoring in Engineering. She will be transferring to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the near future. She is convinced that by observing, analyzing, and understanding, one can truly begin to open one's mind, and an open mind is a very powerful thing. Her ultimate goal is to become a Software Engineer for Google.
Rolando Santos is currently attending the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. His major is Computer Science. Rolando intends to transfer to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champagne to complete his bachelor's degree. Rolando believes that the road to success is not linear and that there are many twists and turns, but it's about what we learn from them and to use these lessons to better ourselves.
